ZIMBABWE IS NOT A KINGDOM – MNANGAGWA MUST GO IN 2028

In Zimbabwe today, democracy is under attack. Some people in politics want to change the Constitution so that President Emmerson Mnangagwa can stay in power past 2028. This is a big danger to our country. I am a political activist who fights against such things. I speak out because I believe in a Zimbabwe that respects the law, respects the people, and respects the future.

This week, the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) spoke out against the plan to change the Constitution. They told Mnangagwa and his people that the law must be respected. The Constitution says a president must serve only two terms. That rule is clear, and it must not be broken.

The Church reminded us that Mnangagwa once said he would follow the Constitution. He promised he would not stay in power forever. Now is the time for him to prove that he meant what he said. If he tries to extend his rule, it means he lied to the people.

As an activist, I agree with the Church. When leaders change the law just to stay in power, they destroy the future of the country. We must not allow that to happen in Zimbabwe. The people who fought for our independence did not die so one man can rule forever. Zimbabwe is not a kingdom. Mnangagwa is not a king.

The Church is right. If the president stays longer than the Constitution allows, people will lose trust in elections. They will stop believing in democracy. That is how violence starts. That is how countries fall into chaos. Zimbabwe does not need more pain. We already suffer from high prices, poor hospitals, no jobs, and a broken economy. Changing the law to let one man stay in power will make things worse.

We must speak up now. That is why I write. That is why I post on my blog. That is why I talk to young people, to students, to the unemployed, to women, and to all Zimbabweans who want a better life. We cannot be silent when democracy is being killed.

Some Members of Parliament are also pushing for this term extension. They are betraying the people. They were elected to protect the law, not destroy it. If they allow Mnangagwa to stay past 2028, they are helping to break Zimbabwe. They must be stopped.

We need real change in 2028. We need free and fair elections. We need peaceful transfer of power. This is what democracy means. The Church is calling for reforms, and I support that. The Electoral Commission must be fair. The army must stay out of politics. The police must protect people, not beat them. This is the Zimbabwe we must fight for.

The Church ended their statement with a powerful Bible verse from Micah 6:8. It says we must act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. That is what our leaders should do. That is what we all must do.

I want to say to Mnangagwa today: if you really love Zimbabwe, leave in 2028. Let the people choose a new leader. Show that you are different. Show that you respect the Constitution. Do not become another dictator.

This is not just about politics. It is about the soul of Zimbabwe. Do we want a future of freedom or a future of fear? Do we want a nation of law or a nation of lies?

Zimbabweans, now is the time to stand. Do not be afraid. Speak out in your churches, your schools, your homes. Tell your MPs you do not want Mnangagwa after 2028. Tell your leaders that Zimbabwe is not for sale.

We will not be ruled by force. We will be led by truth. The Constitution must win. The people must win. Democracy must win.

  1. This activist is just another opposition mouthpiece pretending to care about democracy. Zimbabwe needs unity, not endless noise and blog rants.

  2. You’re panicking over a rumour. No one has officially said the Constitution will be changed. Stop stirring unrest with fear-mongering and speculation. Mnangagwa has brought stability since 2017. If the people want him to continue, why should he be forced to leave just because of Western-style term limits? The Church should stay out of politics. They were silent during real national crises, and now they speak up to defend activists with hidden agendas.

  3. This is a clear and powerful reminder that Zimbabwe is not a monarchy. We must protect our Constitution and say no to lifetime leadership. When the Church and the people speak in one voice, it means the nation is waking up. Term limits protect democracy, they must be respected. Changing the Constitution to extend a leader’s term is a red flag. We’ve seen this script before in Africa. Let’s not repeat the same mistake.
