ZANU PF YOUTH LEAGUE IN CHAOS AS MACHAKAIRE FACES HIS OWN FIRE

The crisis in ZANU PF keeps getting worse, and now even the Youth League is falling apart. Tinoda Machakaire, who is the leader of the Youth League, is now under fire after he made big changes without following the party rules. As a political activist fighting for true democracy in Zimbabwe, I am watching this closely. This shows how power is abused and how even within ZANU PF, there is no proper democracy. People are chosen and removed without reason. It is all about control.

On December 9, Machakaire decided to reshuffle the Youth League leadership. He changed people from their positions and added new ones without talking to anyone first. He said he did it to help the party meet its goals and follow “Vision 2030,” which is just another ZANU PF lie. But these changes upset many people. Even people in his own party are angry.

John Paradza, who is the deputy secretary of the Youth League, was not happy with this. He quickly told youth members to ignore the reshuffle and continue with their old positions. He said Machakaire’s actions were not allowed and were against the party’s own rules. This was a brave move by Paradza, but it also showed how divided and broken the party has become.

Then Obert Mpofu, who is the Secretary for Administration in ZANU PF, also agreed that Machakaire’s actions were wrong. He said only the President or First Secretary of the party has the power to approve such changes. So both Paradza and Mpofu stood against Machakaire. This is not about caring for the youth. It is a power struggle between old men who want to keep control.

Machakaire, instead of listening, got angry. He wrote a letter to Paradza demanding that he stop telling people to reject the reshuffle. He said there would be “consequences.” But the more he pushed, the more the party members started turning against him.

Now, many youth members are not attending his meetings. In places like Masvingo and Midlands, which are Paradza’s strong areas, Machakaire has no support. He has failed to bring people to ZANU PF events. This is a big problem because the youth are a key part of any political movement. Without the youth, ZANU PF is weak. And people are even saying there are secret plans to remove Machakaire completely.

This whole situation shows that ZANU PF is falling apart. Even within their own groups, there is no unity. There is no real democracy. People are afraid to speak, and those who do, like Paradza, are threatened. This is why I keep writing. This is why I keep fighting.

We want a Zimbabwe where young people can speak, lead, and choose their leaders freely. Not like this, where everything is decided by a few people at the top who care only about power and not about the country. Machakaire’s fall is a sign of what happens when you act without thinking. He thought he could do what he wants, and now even his own people are turning on him.

As an activist, I call on all young Zimbabweans to wake up. This is our time to demand better. If ZANU PF can’t fix itself, how can it fix the country? This crisis in the Youth League is not just about Machakaire. It is about how this party has failed to lead with fairness. We must not stay quiet.

We want freedom. We want democracy. And we will not stop until we get it.

  1. Calling Vision 2030 “a lie” is disrespectful to national development efforts. Just because you oppose ZANU PF doesn’t mean everything they do is wrong. The Youth League will resolve its issues internally. Outsiders pretending to care about the youth should first look at what their own parties have achieved.

  2. This article exposes the chaos within ZANU PF’s own structures. If they can’t lead their Youth League with order, how can they lead a country? Machakaire’s reshuffle without consultation is another example of power abuse. This is not leadership, it’s dictatorship at youth level.

  3. Paradza deserves credit for standing up against unconstitutional moves. We need more young voices challenging authority and demanding due process. The fallout in the Youth League shows that even ZANU PF youth are tired of top-down control. It’s time for young Zimbabweans to break free and lead real change.
