CORRUPTION IS KILLING ZIMBABWE AND MNANGAGWA IS JUST WATCHING

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again talked about fighting corruption in Zimbabwe. This time, he was speaking in Harare at the Zimbabwe Local Government Association Annual Indaba. He said corruption in the country’s 92 local councils is very serious. He also said the people doing corruption must face the full law. He promised that even local authorities will not be spared. But as someone who has seen this before, I must ask: is this just another speech?
As a political activist, I have seen how the people of Zimbabwe continue to suffer while the rich and powerful enjoy life. Mnangagwa keeps talking about corruption, but he is doing nothing to stop it. Under his rule, corruption has become worse. People close to him are the ones doing the most corruption. His friends and political allies are stealing and not being punished. They use his name to protect themselves. They know no one will arrest them because they are connected to power.
This is not new. We have heard these same words before. Every time there is a big event, Mnangagwa says corruption must end. But after the speech, nothing happens. The people stealing money continue to walk free. They even build big houses and drive expensive cars while the rest of Zimbabweans live in poverty.
Local councils are full of corruption. That is why people don’t have clean water. That is why electricity goes off all the time. That is why waste is not collected and roads are full of potholes. Money that is meant to fix these problems is being stolen. People are suffering every day, yet nothing is done to punish those responsible.
The president says the law must be applied to everyone. But is that really true? When opposition leaders speak out, they are arrested quickly. But when someone from ZANU PF steals millions, no one touches them. Why? Because they are part of the system. This is not justice. This is dictatorship hiding behind fake democracy.
As an activist, I write and speak for the people who have no voice. I speak for the young girl walking long distances to fetch water. I speak for the old woman who sleeps in darkness because there is no electricity. I speak for the unemployed man who cannot feed his family because corruption has killed all jobs. I speak for Zimbabwe.
If the president is really serious, he must arrest his own corrupt allies. He must stop protecting criminals. He must show Zimbabwe that no one is above the law. Only then can we begin to trust again. But until that day comes, we must continue to speak out.
ZANU PF has destroyed our democracy. They use fear and lies to control the people. They say elections are fair, but we know they are not. They say they care, but we know they do not. They only care about power and money. Zimbabwe needs change. Real change.
Corruption is like a poison. It spreads and kills everything. It kills hospitals, schools, roads, and dreams. It kills hope. But we the people must keep fighting. We must not give up. Our voices, our words, and our truth are stronger than their lies.
To President Mnangagwa, we say: your words are not enough. Zimbabwe is watching. The world is watching. If you are serious, start by cleaning your own house. If you are not, then history will remember you not as a man who fought corruption, but as a man who let it destroy a nation.
Zimbabwe deserves better. We deserve leaders who care. We deserve a future without fear and corruption. The fight for that future continues. I will not stop writing. I will not stop speaking. The people must rise. Democracy must live again.
